At least 10 Dead as Fighter Jet Crashes at Spanish Military Base

(MENAFN- QNA) At least 10 people died and 13 others were injured Monday after a Greek F-16 fighter jet crashed at a military base in south-eastern Spain during a NATO training session, according to the Spanish Defence Ministry.

The jet was participating in a NATO training programme near the city of Albacete when it lost power during take-off and crashed into several aeroplanes on the ground, reported the EFE news agency.

According to German press agency (dpa), images from the scene showed a huge fire rising above the base.

The Greek plane was participating in NATO's Tactical Leadership Programme, a joint exercise involving Belgium, Denmark, France, Germany, Britain, Italy, Spain, the United States and Greece.

The Spanish police launched an investigation and NATO said it was looking into the reports.
