Qatar- Minister to head QE's new board


(MENAFN- The Peninsula) The Board of Directors of Qatar Exchange (QE) was restructured and a nine-member board has assumed office.

H E Sheikh Ahmed bin Jassim Al Thani, the Minister of Economy and Commerce, is the chairman of the new board.

The decision was followed by a resolution issued by Qatar Investment Authority (QIA), QE said yesterday in a press note.

Ali bin Ahmed Al Kuwari, representative of listed companies, is the Vice Chairman. Rashid bin Ali Al Mansoori, another Board member, will continue to be the CEO of QE..

Mohammad Hassan Al Saadi (Ministry of Economy & Commerce), Hamad Khalaf Al Maadadi (representative of brokers); Fayez Al Boainin ( QIA); Yousuf Mohammed Al Jaida (QFCA); Andre Went and Waleed Jassim Al Musallam are other Board members.

The Qatar Exchange management welcomed the new chairman and members of the new board, wishing that QE will witness further prosperity and development under the new Board.

Established in 1995, the then Doha Securities Market (DSM) officially commenced operations in May 1997. Since then the exchange has grown to become one of the leading stock markets in the GCC region.

The QE currently has 43 listed companies and its market capitalisation is over QR700bn.

Meanwhile, QE index gained 148.62 points, or 1.27 percent, as it closed yesterday at 11,847.48 points up from the previous closing of 11,698.86.
