UAE, Serbia trade hits USD31.57m


(MENAFN) The UAE's Chamber of Commerce and Industry said that the trade between the UAE and Serbia are strengthening, with the trade currently standing at USD31.57 million for 2013, Gulf News reported.

UAE is already active in Serbia, with a number of companies investing in the country like Etihad acquiring 49 percent equity stake in Air Serbia, formerly known as Jat Airways and saying that it will be investing USD40 million with the purpose of developing a transportation hub in the region, and UAE-based construction company Eagle Hills, which is currently developing Belgrade Waterfront in downtown area of Serbian capital, with an investment of USD4.08 billion.

In the agriculture sector, Abu Dhabi Development Fund is investing in food production by taking over a large arable field, while Al Dahra, has signed a USD400 million agreement to buy eight Serbian farm companies and develop them to grow and process food and fodder for export.

The Chamber also said that the country plans to increase its investment in the agriculture sector abroad, adding that it is currently looking into a number of countries

"We want to invest wherever there is an opportunity. We are already present in many countries including Serbia, Morocco, Pakistan, Egypt, Brazil and Mexico. This is not about food security for the UAE but for the entire region," Assistant secretary general of Federation of UAE Chambers of Commerce and Industry said.
