Spain's tourist arrivals hit record of 65m in 2014


(MENAFN) The Spanish government said the country received a record of 65 million foreign tourist arrivals in 2014 in a fresh boost for the country's recovering economy, The Peninsula Qatar reported.

According to the country's tourism ministry, the overall number of visits by foreign tourists into the country was the highest on record and increased by 4.3 million, or 7 percent compared to 2013.

Britain topped the international tourist arrivals list to Spain with over 15 million British visitors, accounting for 23 percent of the total. Meanwhile, France came second, followed by Germany.

"We have had a historic year in terms of the number of tourists, hotel stays and revenues. Tourism is helping us overcome the difficult period we have been going through," said the junior minister for tourism.
