Canada's inflation slows to 1.5 percent in December

(MENAFN) According to the government statistics agency, Canada's inflation continued to slow for the second straight months in December on plunging oil prices, The Peninsula Qatar reported.

December's inflation stood at 1.5 percent for goods and services, following a 2 percent increase in Statistics Canada's Consumer Price Index (CPI) registered in the previous month.

The slow rise in inflation was mainly attributed to gasoline slumping prices, which dropped 16.6 percent in the 12 month to December, following a fall of 5.9 percent in November.

Prices of natural gas, electricity, fresh vegetables, meat, restaurant meals and passenger vehicles all increased in the cited month, meanwhile, fuel oil costs dropped, the agency said.
