Abu Dhabi Int'l records record-traffic in 2014


(MENAFN) Abu Dhabi Airports said that it has recorded its highest numbers in terms of passengers' traffic in 2014, with the airport recording 20 million inbound, outbound and transfer passengers, thus increasing by 20 percent compared with 2013, Gulf News reported.

During 2014, the airport also said that it handled 154.821 traffic movements, with an increase of 14.5 percent compared to last year, while its cargo rose 12.8 percent, reaching 797.069 million tons, adding that two new airlines joined the airport the Greek Aegean Airline and Nikki Airways from Austria, and that it added 12 new destinations.

Meanwhile, the top five destinations from Abu Dhabi were India, Germany, United Kingdom, Pakistan and Saudi Arabia.

In December, passenger traffic was up 21.7 percent with 1.833,868 travelers, while its cargo tonnage increased 5.6 percent to 69.736 tons, and the number of aircraft movements went up by 17 per cent to 14.105, making December the second busiest month of the year following August.

"The continuing growth in passenger numbers ... strengthens Abu Dhabi's position as a growing global transportation hub," Chairman of Abu Dhabi Airports commented on these results.
