Fighting in Ukraine's Mariupol claims 30 lives

(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) At least 30 people were killed and 93 others injured in the fierce fighting between the pro-Russian separatists in Mariupol city, east Ukraine, on Saturday.

The separatists have claimed control over the city after they attacked the government troops with Grad missiles and heavy machineguns while the fighting is still going on, the Russian Interfax news agency reported citing Ukrainian military sources.

The separatists said the attack on Mariupol and the siege they laid on Debaltseve town in the Donetsk Oblast province are meant to prevent the regular troops from pounding the separatist stronghold in Donetsk city.

Meanwhile, the Russian TV reported that the Ukrainian government troops and the pro-government nationalist factions were forced to pull out from Krasny Partizan city near Mariupol in anticipation of further advancement by the separatists.
