Some parties hinder troop disengagement in Donetsk - German FM

(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) German Foreign Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier on Saturday expressed regret over the exacerbating conflict in east Ukraine and the rising civilian death toll as a result.

There are some parties which hinder the agreement to disengage the Ukrainian government troops from the pro-Russia separatists and move their heavy weapons out of Donetsk region, he said without naming them.

Steinmeier who arrived here this afternoon on a two-day official visit to Algeria, made the comments at a joint press conference with Algerian counterpart Ramtane Lamamra.

He noted that he discussed the arrangements for ending arms proliferation in the region with Russian, Ukrainian and French foreign ministers but some parties blocked these arrangements.

He affirmed opposition to any escalation of the conflict in the region and the fall of civilian casualties.

Commenting on the terrorist attacks in Paris on January 7, he said that all Europeans are unanimous on enhancing the security measures in order to prevent any attacks in the future.

On the Algerian-German defense cooperation he said the two sides plan to launch a factory for manufacturing armored vehicles in Algeria but the German Bundesrat (federal council) has yet to approve the plan.

He added that his current visit to Algeria aims to discuss a range of issues relating to economic, cultural and technical cooperation.

He is expected to hold talks with President Abdulaziz Bouteflika tomorrow Sunday.
