US condemns ISIL "brutal murder" of Japanese captive

(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) The US on Saturday strongly condemned as "brutal" the Islamic State (ISIL) militant group's murder of one of two Japanese captives, Haruna Yukawa, whose 72-hour deadline for a USD-200-million ransom ended.

"Our condolences today are with the people of Japan for their terrible loss," President Barack Obama was quoted as saying in a statement.

"We renew our call for the immediate release of (the second Japanese captive) Kenji Goto and all other remaining hostages," read the White House statement.

"We stand shoulder to shoulder with our ally Japan and applaud its commitment to peace and development in a region far from its shores. We will work together to bring the perpetrators of these murders to justice and will continue to take decisive action to degrade and ultimately defeat ISIL."
