Young Saudis win funding for innovative projects


(MENAFN- Arab News) Businesspeople here have pledged to fund the projects of several young Saudi entrepreneurs aimed at developing Riyadh which includes an application for the delivery of home-cooked meals.The Riyadh Chamber of Commerce and Industry (RCCI) recently hosted a workshop and contest which saw 10 students from King Saud University (KSU) participate.The event was jointly organized by the Riyadh Global Shapers Community. The Global Shapers Community is an initiative of the World Economic Forum aimed at helping young people around the globe contribute to their communities. Four of the contestants received financial support for their ideas.The first winner was Hamad Hani Al-Diraie a final year student at KSU's medical faculty who proposed the development of a mobile application to help link the community with government and other role players.The second winning idea by Mohamed Al-Rikiyyan dubbed Smart Hope envisions setting up a smart building as an incubator for the generation of creative ideas to develop various sectors of society.The third place was jointly shared by women students Alia Al-Murri and Nouf Al-Zain for the proposed development of a mobile application to deliver home-cooked meals.The fourth place was shared by sisters Sama and Najla Shuwish who proposed developing a mobile application that would provide housemaids and babysitters.Ali bin Saleh Al-Othaim board member of the RCCI and chairman of the young businesspeople's committee announced that there would be support for the projects.Majid Garoub a lawyer said he was impressed with the ideas and would provide free legal advice to all 10 participants for one year as an incentive to get their projects off the ground.
