Europe's new car sales surge 6 percent in 2014

(MENAFN) Data showed that new car sales in Europe increased by six percent in 2014, ending a long decrease in activity that started in 2007, The Peninsula Qatar reported.

The European Automobile Manufacturers' Association (ECEA) said new car sales expanded by 5.7 percent last year, but remain lower than they were before the global financial crisis.

The continuing economic sluggishness in Europe means that carmakers are not going to be able to repeat 2014's performance, with expectation of a limited growth in sales ahead.

"2014 should be taken with relief and satisfaction. However, this growth should not be misinterpreted: the foundations for a flourishing car market are yet to be built," an auto industry expert said.
