KUWAIT CITY Jan 19 (KUNA): As part of the Fifth National Heritage Festival sponsored by His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah the camel racing competitions will start on Tuesday with a large participation from Kuwait and other Arab Gulf countries. The event which will be held at Sabah Al-Ahmad Heritage Village in Al-Salmi comprises a range of 40 diverse contests of six camel categories. In a statement to KUNA Sheikh Sabah Fahad Al-Naser Al-Sabah the deputy chief of the National Heritage Festival's competitions committee said that the contests include all categories of camels for the first time. The event will begin with the white-camel contest which runs over five days followed by the rest of contests he said. He noted that the camel racing competitions have attracted the largest number of participants. 'These competitions are considered a significant part of our heritage' he said. Sheikh Sabah Fahad underlined the preparedness of all committees for the contests which will be watched by camel lovers across the GCC countries. He unveiled that some of the camel contests are allocated for Kuwaitis only. On other competitions he said sheep and goat racing contests which included 19 concluded while bird racing competitions are still running expressing his gratitude to all participants. In a related context bird of Faisal Al-Noun won the first place in the bird race competition followed by Mohammad Saadoun Al-Azmi and Yusuf Al-Rashidi. Badr Mohareb head of the arbitration committee said that the bird racing contests were unexpectedly attractive to a huge number of fans noting that about seven contests were organized: Four for Kuwaitis and three for GCC contestants. He hailed the patronage of His Highness the Amir for the festival which has become a milestone among all heritage forums in the region thanking the organizing committee for its support.
