While adults continue to make a beeline to the Global Village in Dubai it is the kids who are having a field day at the region’s largest outdoor family destination and theme park. Apart from the festive cheer and great dining options the park’s Fantasy Island with its countless rides is proving to be a huge hit with the young crowd. Ever since the gates were thrown open for this season’s attractions thousands of kids have visited the Island.
Global Village authorities are confident that the upsurge in visitor numbers this year is due to the inclusion of a several new entertainment shows extended and bigger area more rides and restaurants and new country pavilions enhancing the entertainment experience for its guests.
“There are bespoke shows taking place throughout the Global Village with lots of special acts being brought in specifically for the ongoing Dubai Shopping Festival (DSF). This includes shows such as the Musical Spectacular special events for children and other family entertainment shows. We are also bringing popular mainstream Arab artists to perform at concerts during the DSF month to add to the visitor experience” Ahmad Hussain Chief Operating Officer at Global Village told Khaleej Times in an exclusive chat.
Kids visiting the Global Village are tripping it fantastic with a delightful selection of songs from classic children’s musicals such as Mary Poppins Wizard of Oz and Aladdin. The show features a Mary Poppins look-a-like and some of the popular characters from the Wizard of Oz. A lot of children can be seen jostling to meet their favourite characters after performances for photo opportunities.
Take a ride
As a result the Fantasy Island in Global Village has become a major drawing point for kids. The purpose built land of fun and games which features funfair rides has an array of spectacular swings for children of all ages. “Our family loved the bungy trampoline in Fantasy Island. Besides being completely safe it is a must-go for children. The trampoline is attached to a jumper via a mini bungy elastic system at the sides of the harnesses. That makes it completely safe for kids to jump effortlessly up into the air safely somersaulting frontwards or backwards” Sarah Batlouni a Lebanese expat visiting the Global Village with her family told Khaleej Times.
Long queues can be seen for the chairoplane a special ride that is a variation on the carousel. With tickets for the ride priced at Dh10 per person kids can be seen frolicking on fun chairs that are suspended from the rotating top of the carousel.
Other popular rides at Fantasy Island include demolition derby inflatable land high ropes pony adventure crazy water boats baby aviator scalextric go gator and baby drop tower. World famous funfair operator Mellors Group Events that has extensive experience in building and running funfairs at high profile locations around the globe are is the organiser of the funfair attraction.
Another big hit among kids is the prehistoric oceanarium at Global Village. Bringing to life sea creatures it offers educational inspiration to kids who can explore and discover a world of wild predators in the oceanarium.
It makes use of the latest 3D technology to reconstruct prehistoric water creatures that lived in the oceans over 200 million years ago.
Also a variety of moving sculptures of animals made of silicon are the main highlights at the show’s Animals Land. Children can get to spend quality time checking out and reading about various animals like gorillas spiders giraffes camels snails chimpanzees crocodiles and penguins that have been marked with signs that give more information about them. Nearby the Al Remal pit houses sculptures shaped in famous historical attractions from around the globe. Various Disney characters are on display too.
As all roads lead to the Village the authorities make sure that the highest standards of international safety and security measures are adhered to. “We have got emergency lighting and exits at necessary areas and pavilions to ensure safety at all times. To see that visiting families and individual at Global Village feel that they are in safe hands whilst in the park is the main aim for everybody involved in bringing Global Village to life every season” Ahmad Hussain concluded.
