Qatar delays USD12b Sharq crossing project


(MENAFN) According to MEED, the Middle East tracker of projects, Qatar has decided to delay its USD12 billion Sharq crossing project, the massive infrastructure project that is set to comprise of three bridges interconnected by subsea tunnels, Arabian Business reported.

The project, which was not included in the government's recently released priority list for the next seven years, is designed by Spain's Santiago Calatrava and is expected to include three bridges spanning between 600 meters and 1.310 meters, linking Doha's new Hamad International airport with the city's cultural district of Katara in the north and the central business area of West Bay.

Qatar, which is investing USD140 billion on projects including roads, stadiums, the recently opened airport, a new port and residential and retail developments as it prepares to host the FIFA World Cup in 2022, previously said that construction was to start this year and be completed by 2021.
