Maid raped by man posing as sponsor, court hears

(MENAFN- Khaleej Times) A Pakistani man allegedly 'received' an Indonesian maid after her arrival at Dubai International Airport by pretending to be her sponsor and raped her after driving her to a remote location, a Dubai court heard on Tuesday.

The 42-year-old, who works as a driver, is accused of picking up the woman, 36, and driving her to a dark location in an industrial area in Sharjah, where he raped her. He also allegedly forced her to perform a sexual act on him. He has been charged with kidnap, rape, making criminal threats and physical assault in the Court of First Instance.

The maid said during prosecution investigation that she arrived at Dubai airport's Terminal 1 on October 4 last year. "I came here to work for a family in Al Ain. As I was waiting for my employer, the accused came to me and claimed he was my sponsor. He asked me to walk with him to his car."

When he drove her to a dark location and parked there, she began panicking and questioned his motives. He then jumped to the back seat and asked her to have sex with him. After she rejected her advances, he threatened to kill her, she said. "He slapped me several times and then raped me."

He dropped her at a residential complex near the airport. "He pointed to a building and told me to go there. But I was denied entry by a security guard."

A Filipino man, 46, told the prosecutor that he was walking in Al Garhoud area around 4am when he spotted the victim standing near a tree. "She came to me and asked whether she was in Al Ain city. I gave her my mobile phone as she wanted to make a call."

The witness said the woman had injury marks on her face and cried as she spoke on the phone.

According to her statement during interrogation, the maid phoned her sister. A police lieutenant said the victim reported the rape at the police post at the airport. The victim had visible marks of injury. "We caught the accused at the airport. He admitted that he tricked the maid into riding in his car by claiming to be her employer. He took her to a remote place in Sharjah where he raped her."

The lieutenant quoted the defendant as confessing that he was drunk at the time of the incident. His DNA matched with that of the body fluids found on the woman and her clothes, as per the Criminal Evidence Department's report.
