UAE, Egypt to account for highest demand of renewables in 2015

(MENAFN) According to REC Group, a global provider of solar energy solutions, the UAE and Egypt are expected to account for the highest demand for renewable energy in the region this year, Gulf News reported.

"We see a lot of demand coming from Egypt probably in the second half of 2015. Moving forward, Saudi will start picking up by 2017. But the catalyst in the region has been Dubai, and now Egypt, and I think [projects] will follow one after the other," Senior Vice President at REC said.

The company said that solar energy needs to be used as an alternative for electric energy whose consumption is rising 5 to 10 per cent a year in the UAE, adding that it expects that solar energy will account for nearly 8 percent of the energy mix by 2030.

REC Group said that its total solar energy capacity is expected to reach1.3 gig watts this year, increasing from 940 megawatts in 2014.
