Oman bounces back withvictory against Ukraine


(MENAFN- Muscat Daily) Oman bounced back after a hammering from Malaysia with a hard-earned 2-1 win against Ukraine in a Group A match of the Hockey World League Round Two in Singapore on Tuesday.

Muhanna al Hasani put Oliver Kurtz's men ahead with an impressive goal in the tenth minute and then Imad al Hasani doubled the lead two minutes later. Ukraine reduced the margin in the 19th minute when Artem Ozerskyi converted a penalty corner.

Oman managed to keep the rival attack at bay for the rest of the match to record a key win and go second in the group with six points.

Tournament favourite Malaysia leads the group with nine points from three matches. Ukraine is third behind Oman with three points and Singapore failed to open its account.

Oman meets Bangladesh on Thursday for a place in the semifinals which will be played on January 24. The final will be played a day later.

In the other quarterfinal line-ups Malaysia will meet Mexico Poland will take on Singapore and Japan will lock horns with Ukraine.

Eight teams are competing in the event where the three top finishers will advance to the semifinals.
