Five persons to stand trial for defaming leaders


(MENAFN- Khaleej Times) Five GCC citizens - four of them on the run - will stand trial at the State Security Criminal Court for allegedly posting rumours and images online with the intention of mocking and tarnishing the image and status of the UAE President, the Abu Dhabi Crown Prince as well as other leaders of the country.

According to the charge sheet filed by the State Security Prosecution, the accused had published the false information on Twitter under the handles @bo3skor101, @bo3skor2021 and @northsniper; and on Instagram accounts 9ip and bo3skor1011 to defame the UAE leadership.

The four accused on the run have been charged under articles 29 and 41 of federal law number 5 of 2012 (anti-cyber crime law) and under articles A-102 and D-130 of the Federal Penal Code and its amendments.

The case was referred to the State Security Circuit of the Federal Supreme Court with evidence enclosed with the charge sheet signed by Ahmed Rashid Al Dhanhani, Advocate-General of the State Security Prosecution.

The hearing was adjourned to March 2.
