France expresses concern over violence in Yemen

(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) French authorities expressed concern Monday over reports of serious, armed clashes in Yemen's captial, Sanaa, and urged an immediate halt to violence and respect for a cease-fire in the city.

"France is concerned by armed clashes that are ongoing around the Presidential palace in Sanaa," a Foreign Ministry statement said, calling for "an immediate halt to violence." France also urged the warring factions to put a cease-fire in place and to "restart dialouge with all the parties and...implement the resumption of political transition by the adoption of a Constitution," in line with agreements reached last September.

"We reaffirm, alongside our partners in the G10, our support for President Hadi and the Yemeni government," the French statement said, urging the release of members of President Hadi's staff who have been taken hostage.
