Houthi gunmen besiege PM's residence in Sanaa

(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) Houthi militants have laid siege on the residence of Yemeni Prime Minister Khaled Bahhah at the Presidential Palace on Monday, Minister of Information Nadia Al-Saqaf announced.

Bahhah's convoy came under fire on Al-Zubair St., downtown Sanaa, earlier today after the prime minister had a meeting with President Abd Rabbu Mansur Hadi; the attack resulted in no casualties.

The Houthi gunmen took strategic positions around the Presidential Palace and the nearby mountainous areas, a deployment that heralds serious developments looming large, Al-Saqaf said in a press released posted on her Facebook page.

Commenting on the truce reached by the Houthis and military forces this afternoon, the minister said the joint security commission intensified its presence in the flashpoints around the Presidential Palace in order to oversee the ceasefire.

The death toll rose to eight as a result of today's fighting between Presidential Guard Crops and the Houthis in the vicinity of the Presidential Palace, Al-Saqaf said.

The deaths include four civilians, three Houthi gunmen and two soldiers, she added, noting that the state-run media, except for Aden TV station, no longer express the viewpoints of the government since they are under the Houthis' control.
