Kuwait, Switzerland sign MoU on political consultations


(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) The State of Kuwait signed an MoU on Monday with the Swiss Confederation on political consultations.

The MoU came to sustain distinguished bilateral relations and mutual cooperation between the two countries, Director of the Europe Department at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Ambassador Waleed Al-Khubaizi, who signed the MoU on behalf of the Kuwaiti side, told KUNA.

Minister of State Ambassador for Foreign Affairs Yves Rossier signed on behalf of the Swiss side.

"Switzerland gains a special presence at global political and economic levels due to its non-alignment stance," he said.

Ambassador Al-Khubaizi said he held consultations with director of MENA department at the Swiss foreign ministry Ambassador Wolfgang Amadeus Bruelhart, especially the volume of Kuwaiti investments in Switzerland, which reached some USD 8.6 billion.

Furthermore, Ambassador Al-Khubaizi discussed the issue of exempting Kuwaiti citizens from the Schengen visa with member of the immigration department at the ministry Ambassador Urs von Arb due to Switzerland's "vibrant" relations with the EU.

Also during the signing ceremony, both sides agreed to well prepare for 2016 celebration for the 50th anniversary since the establishment of diplomatic relations.

On his part, Kuwait's Ambassador to the Swiss Confederation Bader Al-Tunaib said main issues discussed between the two sides included coordination in international venues, means to sustain investments and inviting internationally-accredited and renowned Swiss companies and private sector to take a part in the state's development plan.
