18 Qatari women graduate from Springboard course

(MENAFN- The Peninsula) Eighteen Qatari women from poor families have graduated from the fourth Springboard course on empowerment organised by Qatar Red Crescent (QRC) in cooperation with British Council in Qatar and Springboard UK.

The fourth batch of trainees attended the programme under the theme 'Make Your Future by Yourself'.

It aimed to achieve professional, economic and social empowerment of Qatari women as part of the human development pillar of Qatar National Vision 2030, QRC said yesterday. The women were taught by Instructor Rana Marawan Al Qatami over four weeks at Millennium Hotel Doha.

With its four courses so far held at a cost of QR148,000, the programme has received 72 women from low-income families.

"We are proud to graduate the fourth batch of 18 women of our low-income families. I would like to thank British Council, which is a leading training institution, our low-income families for making the programme a success and QRC staff for their efforts.

"I hope that the graduates will benefit from the experience and knowledge they have gained and apply them in their careers," said Rashid bin Saad Al Mohannadi, Director, QRC Social Development Department and Al Khor Branch.

Hanadi Al Moallem, Head of Empowerment, QRC said the QRC-British Council partnership helps advance low-income families and empower them to face challenges in the labour market, which are rapidly changing due to the dramatic developments worldwide. This requires continuous updating of individual capabilities and skills.

Al Moallem said the course is effective in developing women's skills and making them more interactive and open towards their society, and even better contributing to its inputs and influencing its outputs.

Springboard is a women-centred programme that has won global awards for enabling women in many countries to have more appreciation and influence and attain their potential at work and in life. It serves institutions, universities, government bureaus, ministries, municipalities and banks, including the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) and HSBC Bank.

The council translated it into Arabic to help Arabic-speaking women discover their capabilities and make more achievements personally and professionally.
