(MENAFN- Jordan News Agency) His Majesty King Abdullah II and Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe, on Sunday, held talks on a number of Middle East issues and ways to boost ties between Jordan and Japan in various fields, especially in economic spheres.
His Majesty thanked the Japanese prime minister for his country's support to Jordan and its efforts to establish peace and stability in the region. He also paid tribute to Japan's relief aid to Syrian refugees in Jordan.
The King said Jordan and Japan maintain strategic partnership and see eye to eye on the need to fight terrorism and extremism which the King described as a global threat. Speaking on the Palestinian issue, King Abdullah said the Palestinian cause remains the crux of the conflict in the region, warning that the failure to bring about a just solution to this cause will fuel tension and extremism.
With regards to Syria, His Majesty renewed the call for bringing about a comprehensive solution to the crisis to preserve Syria's unity and territorial integrity. He highlighted burdens being borne by Jordan as a result of hosting a massive influx of Syrian refugees. The Japanese prime minister thanked His Majesty the King for the invitation to visit Jordan and said the Kingdom enjoys wide international respect for its endeavors to promote peace and stability and combat terrorism.
Abe said his country is keen to continue supporting and helping the Kingdom in establishing sustainable development projects.
Meanwhile, His Majesty the King Abdullah II and the Japanese Prime Minister met with a group of Jordanian and Japanese businessmen and representatives of major economic sectors and urged them to cement economic ties and explore investment opportunities.
The King said Jordan enjoys secure and lucrative investment climate in addition to its strategic location as a gateway to regional markets. He underlined potential investments opportunities in areas of banking, phosphate minerals, renewable energy and the pharmaceutical industry.
His Majesty highlighted Jordan's economic reform drive, saying the Kingdom will press ahead with reforming the national economy to spur growth and attract more investments.
