Minister, British ambassador discuss training Jordanian job seekers


(MENAFN- Jordan News Agency) Minister of Labor and Minister of Tourism and Antiquities, Nidal Qatamin, on Sunday, discussed with the British Ambassador in Amman, Peter Millett, issues of common interest and ways to strengthen cooperation with Jordan to implement programs and projects for rehabilitating and training Jordanian job seekers.

Qatamin noted the Ministry of Labor's efforts aimed at regulating the labor market, stressing that efforts to rectify the situation of foreign workers in the Kingdom, which the ministry had lately initiated, were not directed towards a particular party, but were meant to preserve their rights, as well as knowing the real number of those who live in Jordan for various reasons.

He also briefed the ambassador about the distribution mechanism of job opportunities in the Kingdom's governorates and provinces, stressing that his ministry is paying a great deal of attention to females and persons with disabilities who should be given more career opportunities, and thus made active and productive members of society.

During the meeting, Qatamin showcased various aspects of tourism domain in Jordan which depend on product uniqueness, diversity, mild climate, and security and stability, pointing to the uniqueness of religious tourism in Jordan.

The British ambassador mentioned his country's efforts to help Jordan to face crises, that emerged as a result of the intensification of conflict in some hotbeds of tension in the region.

These have aggravated the problems of poverty and unemployment due to forced migrations that affected Jordan and still do, he said, while praising the Ministry of Labor's efforts in addressing these problems.

Millett also expressed his interest in training Jordanian job seekers belonging to diverse segments of society and enabling them to avail of proper job opportunities, noting the importance of changing the culture in a society that sees public office as the best way to achieve a promising future for Jordanian youth.
