Apple, Google agree to pay USD415m settlement

(MENAFN) Apple, Google and two other Silicon Valley firms agreed to pay USD415 million in an attempt to resolve a class-action lawsuit filed against them earlier, Oman Observer reported.

The lawsuit alleged that the companies have formed an illegal alliance earlier to prevent their workers from leaving for better-paying jobs. The lawsuit, filed in 2011, sought USD3 billion in damages.

The settlement revises a USD324.5 million agreement that US District Judge rejected, indicating that she believed the 64,000 workers in the case should be paid at least USD380 million, including attorney fees.

If the judge approved the latest settlement, it would avoid an embarrassing trial over claims that Apple, Google, Intel and Adobe Systems have secretly agreed not to employ each other's employees from 2005 to 2009.
