China's overseas investment tops USD100b in 2014

(MENAFN) Official figures showed that Chinese overseas investment surpassed USD100 billion for the first time in 2014, but remained below investment into the country, Oman Observer reported.

Overseas direct investment (ODI) surged 14.1 percent to USD102.9 billion last year, as Chinese firms continued to buy up assets, particularly energy and resources, to power the economy.

Meanwhile, foreign direct investment (FDI) into the country increased to USD119.6 billion, marking the second straight increase, surging 1.7 percent and representing a marked slowdown.

In 2013, Chinese ODI increased 16.9 percent to USD90.17 billion, while FDI rebounded 5.3 percent to USD117.59 billion after dropping in the previous year on economic weakness.
