Turkish FM lauds strong relations with Kuwait


(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoolu lauded the deep-rooted ties linking his country and Kuwait.

In an interview with KUNA a few hours before starting two-day official visit to Kuwait, Cavusoolu said that the two countries are closely cooperating in the economic, trade, tourism, investment, construction, military and defense industry domains.

He unveiled that his talks in Kuwait will focus on bilateral relations and the regional and international developments of common concern.

He noted that his visit comes upon an invitation from the First Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sheikh Sabah Khaled Al-Hamad Al-Sabah.

The Turkish top diplomat pointed out that combating terrorism and the threat of armed groups, especially that of the Islamic State in Iraq and the Levant (ISIL), will be thoroughly discussed during his talks with Kuwaiti officials.

In this regard, he underlined the importance of developing a comprehensive strategy that tackles the different political, military and humanitarian aspects of the crisis in Syria and Iraq, to defeat ISIL.

On the economic relations, he stated that the trade exchange between Turkey and Kuwait amounted to USD 625 million in 2013 and USD 511 million in the first 11 months of 2014.

He added that Turkey seeks to boost trade exchange and relations to live up to the level of political relations between the two countries.

He underscored the importance of the Kuwaiti investments in Turkey, which amounted to USD 1.4 billion in creating jobs in the banking and real estate sectors.

He called on Kuwaiti investors to explore and try to benefit from the available lucrative investment opportunities in Turkey.

There are about 160 investment companies with Kuwaiti capital operating in Turkey and about branches of 260 Kuveyt Turk Bank, a subsidiary of the Kuwait Finance House, he said. Moreover, the Kuwait-based Burgan Bank has shares in one of the Turkish banks.

In this regard, the Turkish Foreign Minister expressed his appreciation of Kuwait's inclusion of Turkey's in its list for investment destinations in 2005.

On Turkish investments in Kuwait, the Minister said that the Turkish
construction companies executed a number of infrastructure projects in Kuwait at a total cost of USD 1.6 billion.

He added that the Turkish companies are looking forwards to contributing to Kuwait's development and infrastructure projects.

He underlined the depth of the historical and the cultural relations between Turkey and all Arab countries, especially Kuwait. He called for cooperation and concerted efforts to end the unrest in Arab countries.

The Turkish Minister welcomed Kuwait's host of upcoming the Second Arab-Turkish Forum in April.

He expressed commitment and support to the security and stability of Kuwait and all the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) states.
