Kuwait- Gov't to launch campaigns to combat IPR violators

(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) Ministry of Commerce and Industry in collaboration with Ministry of Interior plans massive inspection campaigns to combat Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) violators nationwide, a senior ministry official said.

Ministry of Commerce and Industry's Assistant Undersecretary for Foreign Trade and International Organizations Affairs Sheikh Nimr Al-Sabah underlined on Saturday the necessity of intensifying efforts in this regard.

"I met with Interior Ministry's Assistant Undersecretary for Criminal Security Affairs, Maj. Gen. Abdulhamid Al-Awadhi and agreed on certain mechanisms of these campaigns to protect markets from violators," Sheikh Nimr told KUNA in a statement.

During the meeting, there were proposals for implementing more effective measures to detect fake goods that were confiscated by the ministry and refer violators to Interior Ministry's General Department of Criminal Evidence in order to enforce the IPR law, he said.

"These endeavors aim at lifting Kuwait from the Priority Watch List designed by US Trade Representative (USRT)," he said.

The Office of the USTR is responsible for developing and coordinating U.S. international trade, commodity, and direct investment policy, and overseeing negotiations with other countries.
