GCC chief condemns abduction of Yemen's presidential chief of staff

(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) GCC Secretary-General Abdullatif Al-Zayani has condemned strongly the abduction of Ahmed Awadh bin Mubarak, office director of Yemen's president, in the capital Sanaa early on Saturday, by groups affiliated to the Houthi militias.

"It is a terrorist act which runs counter to Islamic values and principles," Al-Zayani said in a statement on Sunday here.

He noted that the act is also incompatible with Yemen's supreme interest as bin Mubarak had a key national role in the peaceful political process in Yemen.

Al-Zayani urged all Yemen's political forces to reject violence and work on implementing the Gulf initiative and the outputs of both the national dialogue conference, and Peace and National Partnership Agreement (PNPA).

The GCC chief also called on the international community to support Yemen's political process and consider implementing the relevant United Nations Security Council resolutions.
