Terror attack threat scribbled on Mumbai airports toilet wall

(MENAFN- Khaleej Times) While security officials suspect all these could be the work of pranksters they are not dismissing the threats lightly.

Mumbai: A second threat message warning of a foreign extremist group’s terrorist attack in Mumbai on January 26 was found scribbled on the walls of a toilet in Mumbai airport on Thursday night less than 10 days after a similar message was discovered at another airport washroom.

While security officials suspect all these could be the work of pranksters they are not dismissing the threats lightly. Security has been beefed up across the metropolis 10 days before the Republic Day celebrations. American President Barack Obama will be the chief guest at this year’s Republic Day parade in Delhi.

Airport staff came across the threat scribbled on the walls of a toilet in the domestic terminal on Thursday night. ‘ISIS 26/01/2015 is BOM ok’ was the message inscribed on the walls of the toilet. Earlier on January 7 another message — ‘ATTECK BY ISIS 10/01/15’ — was found on the wall of a toilet at the international terminal. While CCTVs are not installed inside the toilets the authorities are trying to get footage from cameras located outside the toilets. They are also trying to compare the handwriting of the two messages.

After last week’s threat security was stepped up at the international and domestic terminals with the deployment of additional forces. There is constant patrolling in and around the airport complex and additional measures to frisk passenger have also been taken.

A few days ago some pranksters called up an airline call centre and warned of an aircraft being hijacked.

Besides the airport complex the authorities have also raised security across the metropolis especially near schools railway stations shopping malls and government installations. On Republic Day several functions are held at government and railway offices schools and colleges.

Police officers have been visiting some of the bigger schools and checking the security measures that they have taken.

Similarly patrolling along the coastline has also been stepped up to prevent possible terror attacks from the sea.
