Hyderabad: The Telangana Police on Friday arrested an engineer hailing from Hyderabad at the Rajiv Gandhi International Airport in suburban Shamshabad while he was on his way to Syria to allegedly join the Daesh militant group. The dramatic arrest at the Shamshabad international airport came after the security agencies were tipped off about the plans of the youth identified as Salman Mouinuddin 22 who holds an MS degree from an American university.

Mouinuddin lived with his parents in the Asif Nagar area. He was nabbed when he was going to fly abroad for his onward journey to Syria via Turkey. Mouinuddin was going to join the Daesh along with his British girlfriend Nicky Joseph who had converted to Islam and is presently known as Ayesha police said.

The police claimed that Mouinuddin has admitted that he was going to join the militant group along with his girlfriend.

In September last year the Maharashtra police had arrested three youths from Kalyan on suspicion of joining the group on their return from Syria.

Last month the police arrested Mehdi Masoor Biswas a 24-year-old food company executive from Bengaluru saying he was running the pro-Daesh Twitter handle ShamiWitness that had 17800 followers including hundreds of foreign fighters for the group.
