UAE's Sharjah int'l passengers up 11.76 percent in 2014


(MENAFN) Sharjah International Airport said that it has registered an increase by 11.76 percent in its passenger traffic for 2014 compared with last year by recording 9.5 million passengers compared to 8.5 million in 2013, Gulf News reported.

"The 2014 passenger numbers indicate the growing popularity of the airport. Robust passenger traffic growth continues at Sharjah International Airport," chairman of the Sharjah Airport Authority said.

The airport also said that the increase in passenger traffic in 2014 was attributed to the new routes and additional frequencies that were launched during the year especially by low cost carrier Air Arabia, which uses Sharjah International as its first and main hub.

During 2014, the number of aircraft landings and take-offs at the airport rose 6.5 percent to 70.559 compared with 66.247 a year earlier, while the amount of cargo handled at the airport in fell by almost 100 per cent to 240,000 tons compared to 295,402 tons in 2013.
