Competitive field for Oman Amateur Open


(MENAFN- Muscat Daily) A total of 120 players including 26 golfers from the GCC countries will vie for the 2015 Oman Amateur Open title at the Muscat Hills Golf & Country Club on January 16-17.

The sixth edition of the annual tournament will have a field of 90 men 20 women and ten junior golfers. According to a press release from the Oman Golf Committee (OGC) more than 150 players have registered for the tournament underlining the growing stature of the event.

With the winner of the event guaranteed a direct berth at the NBO Golf Classic the only European Challenge Tour event in Oman the individual strokeplay tournament holds significance for the participants.

Oman's No 1 golfer Azaan al Rumhy and talented youngster Hamood al Harthy are spearheading the challenge for the home team.

Speaking about the event Azaan said 'I am looking forward to winning the tournament. I had won it in 2012 but missed out to Jeff Campbell over the past two years. I would like to get off to a winning start to the year as I am focusing on dominating the domestic season.'

Azaan added 'The field at this competition has grown over the years and there are far more quality golfers from the region participating now than it was
before.'

Mundhir al Barwani the OGC chairman is confident that Oman's players will put up a good show. 'The competition is quite tough with some of the best golfers from Bahrain and UAE taking part. But I think our players will do well.'
