Tarawneh, S. Korean official discuss cooperation


(MENAFN- Jordan News Agency) The Lower House Speaker, Atef Tarawneh, on Wednesday discussed with the President of the Korean Jordanian friendship Commission in the National Assembly of South Korea, Lee Cheol Woo, ways to promote bilateral ties, particularly in parliamentary and economic spheres.

Tarawneh highlighted the level of Jordanian- Korean ties in various fields, noting that the Lower House will urge the government to activate the agreements signed between the two countries, in addition to inking new pacts to enhance scientific cooperation and exchange expertise.

The Speaker reviewed the comprehensive reforms implemented in the Kingdom under the leadership of His Majesty King Abdullah II in the past three years despite the situation in the region . He added that a number of laws have been put in place, including Elections Law, the Constitutional Court and the Independent Election Commission, in addition to several economic laws.

Tarawneh praised the aid provided by South Korea to Syrian refugees, noting that the volume of aid offered by the international community did not exceed 30 percent of the total that Jordan has administered.

Tarawneh also praised the Korean companies working in Jordan, which created many job opportunities for citizens, and said he looked forward to establishing more economic and investment projects to promote nuclear and renewable energy.

The Korean official highlighted the level of the bilateral relations since these were established in the sixties of the last century. Cheol Woo reiterated his keenness to enhance the ties between the two countries in various fields.
