QM unveils artworks to celebrate Qatar 2015

(MENAFN- The Peninsula) Qatar Museums (QM) yesterday unveiled three public art pieces especially commissioned to celebrate the 24th Men's Handball World Championships in Doha.

The artworks are a result of collaboration between QM and the Qatar 2015 Organising Committee.

They are installed at the Lusail multipurpose hall as part of an ongoing public art programme to bring culture to the streets.

They include two murals created by Qatari artist Mohammed Al Nasif and inspired by Qatari culture, development and progress.

The second artwork is a large bronze sculpture entitled "The Challenge 2015", produced in five months by Iraqi artist Ahmed Al Bahrani.

The third is a "calligraffiti" piece by Tunisian artist eL Seed who blends traditional Arabic calligraphy with contemporary street art.

It includes poetry quotes by Sheikh Jassem bin Mohammed bin Thani, the Founder of Qatar.

This is Seed's second project in Qatar. His first in 2013 involved painting four underground tunnels on Salwa Road with artistic graffiti themes and quotes on identity, education, history and other aspects of life in Doha.
