Saudi- SWPF sets agenda for sustainable growth


(MENAFN- Arab News) The 10th Saudi Water and Power Forum (SWPF 2015) concluded in Riyadh after a series of brainstorming sessions setting agendas for sustainable growth in the water and power sector of the Kingdom.Organized by the Ministry of Water and Electricity in association with a number of public and private stakeholders in the water and power sector the SWPF the premier water and power forum in the Kingdom plays a key role in establishing connections between various stakeholders and partners for desired sustainable growth by creating opportunities building relationships and fostering innovation during the three-day forum.On the final day of the forum Saline Water Conversion Corporation (SWCC) endorsed a special session on desalination with sharing of ideas by experts on plans projects and future priorities.



Moderating the session Abdulrahman Al-Ibrahim governor of SWCC asserted that these efforts reflects our commitment to further upgradeand expand the achievements for water and power sector.These are going to be major milestones for the industry and will help set benchmark for related developments as it it will not simply contribute by offering technical expertise but equallycontribute in finding solutions for human resources in the sector by preparing batches of Saudi youth to takeover the important sector.



Outlining the key programs in this direction Yahya Al-Khoshi a senior researcher at King Abdullah City for Atomic and Renewable Energy said that SWCC and K.A.CARE has signed an MoU to study feasibility in the water and power sector for further developments.



'We are working on two projects to connect desalination with the renewable energy' he said.He said that a feasibility study is on for Farasan island project while we are working on design and reliability for a project in Haql.Maintaining that energy efficiency level of the existing system need to be increased for desired growth he said that it is important to know how energy efficiency is going to improve RO projects.Speaking at the session Othman Al-Najdi SWCC deputy governor for operation and maintenance said that projects are under progress in order to meet set standards for sustained growth works on efficiency empowerment.The efficiency of Jubail plant one among the reputed name in the sector of the leading manufacturer of varied type of gases has been increased from 8 percent to 11.3 percent.Likewise a number of ambitious projects in various parts of the Kingdom including Rabigh and Alkhobar are in progress which will help sustain the rapid growth he added.In the next technical session moderated by Adil Bushnak chairman Moya Bushnak one of the associate organizer of the forum the speakers evaluated the route to a decentralized and stabilized supply of water and power for the future generations discussed framework for alleviating water and power subsidies water conservation through tariff-education nexus future of centralizedwater and power production.



The delegates in the concluding session also discussed future trends and priorities for the sector and efficiency opportunities for harnessing innovation to prepare a road map for sustainable development.The forum this year was joined by major players in the sector from across the world and these companies and organization have set up stalls to share their expertise in the water and power sector.



Acwa Power was the principal sponsor this year while gold partners included Siemens GE Marafiq Alstom and Doosam whereas FCC was silver partner and Metito and Veolia as bronze partner.All the participating companies demonstrated their commitment to the Kingdom's energy goals.The participants were delighted to see their most-advanced suite of power generation and water re-use technologies to help meet the growing demand for the sector and samples were put on display.Speaking to Arab News companies expressed great satisfaction over the forum.The participants were happy saying it has highlighted focus on localized innovation and gave due importance to development of Saudi talent through various training initiatives in partnership withforeign expertise.
