Qatar train for Iran clash in Sydney


(MENAFN- The Peninsula) The Qatar national squad underwent light training yesterday ahead of their second Asian Cup group-stage match tomorrow against Iran, a Qatar Football Association (QFA) official said.

Watched by QFA President Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa bin Ahmed Al Thani, coach Djamel Belmadi led the squad at the training session under overcast conditions in Sydney.

Qatar will be playing World Cup qualifiers Iran tomorrow after losing 4-1 to their regional rivals UAE on Sunday.

Striker Khalfan Ibrahim and Kareem Bouzif also took part in the training drills despite slight niggles.

Qatar is attempting to be the first team to win the Asian Cup following a Gulf Cup triumph. The Maroons had won the Gulf Cup in November.
