320 duplicate gas cylinders seized in Sharjah

(MENAFN- Khaleej Times) Al Dhaid Municipality officials, in coordination with the Sharjah Police, seized 320 duplicate gas cylinders of various sizes manufactured and filled by unlicensed companies in two farms located along the Wishah-Al Dhaid road and arrested 11 Asians on Monday.

Most of the arrested suspects were wanted by the police in different criminal cases.

The Asians used to manufacture cylinders of low quality, fill them with cooking gas and sell them in various parts of the emirate at low prices.

They were arrested while sticking labels of licensed companies and installing lids and pipes. The municipality also seized four machines used for filling gas in cylinders, six scales and pipes of various sizes of cylinders. Six vehicles used in transporting the cylinders to restaurants, factories and residents were impounded.

Speaking to Khaleej Times, Ali Musbah Al Tunaiji, Director of Al Dhaid Municipality, said that what the suspects were involved in was commercial fraud. "The gas and cylinders manufactured this way are not safe for usage and are of poor quality which could pose serious hazards to the public," he said.

Al Dhaid Municipality is making all efforts to ensure a safe environment for residents in the area and curb illegal activities that affect the stability and security of residents.

A top officer at Al Dhaid police station told Khaleej Times that they received a notification from the municipality about the suspects' illegal activities. The police checked the veracity of the alert and tracked down the suspects and their locations.

This kind of fraud is a criminal act that adversely affects the safety and security of the public and expose the people to danger.

The police arrested the 11 suspects and most of them were wanted by various police departments in the country and staying in the country illegally. The police have instensified inspection in farms located in the area to ensure that they are not being used for illegal activities.
