Interior Ministry, NDI seal MoU on human rights

(MENAFN- Jordan News Agency) The Ministry of Interior and the U.S National Democratic Institute for International Affairs (NDI) on Monday inked a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) aimed at promoting cooperation in the field of human rights.

Under the MoU, the NDI will support the ministry for conducting national and regional conferences on human rights and political reform and also planning workshops for the ministry's staff on democratic development and elections. It will also support the ministry in publishing articles related to human rights and citizens' participation in the political process in Jordan.

Interior Minister Hussein Majali, who signed the deal with NDI's Senior Country Director, Arianit Shehu, said the MoU will promote political participation and educate citizens about their rights and duties.

Shehu indicated that the MoU aims at supporting the Kingdom's citizens and government to build a "prosperous and democratic society in the light of painful events that the region is witnessing".
