(MENAFN- Gulf Times) While political parties in Nepal are trying hard to forge consensus for contentious issues, nonresident Nepalese organisations in Qatar are pressing Constitution Assembly (CA) of their homeland to bring out the new statute by the deadline on January 22.
Nepalese Unity Society-Qatar (NUS) and Federation of Nepalese Journalists-Qatar (FNJ) have organised separate programmes in Doha to press CA members and politicos of their country to promulgate a new democratic constitution within the timeframe. After dissolution of the first CA in May 2012, the present unicameral CA of 601 members is tasked to draft a new constitution for the Himalayan nation.
NUS urged Nepalese leaders to enshrine the rights of nonresident and migrant Nepalese in the forthcoming constitution during its interaction programme. It was chaired by NUS president Lumakant Pun; and Arjun Thapa, president of International Nepalese Unity Center (INUC), was the guest of honour. Raktim Cultural Initiative (RCI) essayed the welcome song and NUS second vice president Laxmi Kumar Gurung delivered the welcome speech.
Speaking on the occasion, NUS secretariat member Hemanta Waiba blamed United Communist Party of Nepal-Maoist (UCPN-M), the third largest political party, for the political deadlock and prolonged transitional period of the country.
Representatives from various Nepalese organisations, including Sunny Oli of Public Relations Committee (PRC), Ganesh Pariyar of Nonresident Nepalese Front (NNF), nonresident Nepalese leader Maksud Alam, journalists Mohammad Ali, and Hom Karki, first vice president of Nepal Women Association-Qatar (NWA) Amina Khan and Abdul Afis Miya of Muslim Society (MS) shared their views. First vice president of NUS Madan Shrish blamed the identity and ethnicity based politics of opposition parties led by UCPN-M as the chief hurdle for the constitution drafting process in Nepal.
Likewise, nonresident Nepalese leaders, representatives from various organisations, journalists and intellectuals were present in the interaction programme organised by FNJ-Qatar. Representatives from various organisations have concluded to press their respective mother parties in Nepal to promulgate the democratic constitution within the timeframe. The programme was chaired by Ganesh Prasad Banjade and hosted by Mohammed Aziz Ali.
Muslim Society (MS)-Qatar has also asked CA members to reach the consensus and bring out the new constitution within deadline. It has demanded to put the rights of minorities into the forthcoming constitution.
