Gen. Allan calls for continuing support of Kurdish Peshmerga forces

(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) US coordinator for the fight against Islamic State in Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) General John Allan called Monday for continuing the support for the Kurdish Peshmerga forces, fighting ISIL militants.

Allan made the remarks during a meeting with President of Iraq's Kurdistan province Masoud Barzani to congratulate him on the success of the Peshmerga against ISIL in areas of Rabeea, Zamar and Sinjar, an official statement by the administration of the province said.

"The world looks with respect at the role of President Barzani, the people of Kurdistan and the Peshmerga in fighting ISIL terrorists, as well as protecting and hosting hundreds of thousands of the displaced people who left their areas because of threats by terrorists," the statement quoted Allan as saying.

"This is an important acheivement for the Kurdistan province which succeeded in building a good reputation at the world level," he added.

The US, asserted Allan, would continue its support to Iraq's Kurdistan and the Peshmerga forces.
