Lebanese security forces complete Roumieh jail operation

(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) Lebanese Minister of Interior and Municipalities Nuhad Mashnouk said Monday the security forces dismantled the operations room set up by extremist inmates at the Roumieh central prison to run terrorist activities outside the jail.

"Tips indicate that the recent twin bombings in Jabal Mohsen neighborhood in Tripoli have been partially orchestrated from inside the prison," the minister told reporters at the jail following the security operation.

"The security forces managed to move the Islamist prisoners from Building B to the new Building D which meets the security standards," he said, affirming that no prisoner was injured in the operation.

Mashnouk reaffirmed the commitment of the army and security forces to pursue the implementation of the security plan and track down terrorists countrywide.

The Islamist inmates of the prison facilities are accused of association with Islamist groups which attacked the army and security services in the mountainous northeastern areas on the borders with Syria.

In early December, 2014, Islamist gunmen held 25 soldiers hostage in a bid to exchange them for fellow Islamist prisoners at Roumieh jail.
