Yemeni prosecution accuses Iranian of spying for Israel

(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) The state security prosecution in Sanaa accused an Iranian national of spying for Israel and spreading the Bahai belief in Yemen.

Hamed Merza Kamali Srostani, a 51-year-old Iranian arrested in Hadhramowt in 2014, used the name of Hamed Kamal Mohammad bin Haidarah, and lived in the city of Mukalla under the pretext of running his own business, official SABA news agency quoted a source in the prosecution as saying.

He said the security authorities were pursuing other suspects.

The source said Srostani has sought, between 1991 and 2014, with Israel which was represented by so-called Universal House of Justice, to spread the Bahai belief in Yemen.

This act, he added, undermined Yemen's political conditions, independence and territorial integrity.

The prosecution revealed that the defendant encouraged a number of Muslims to embrace Bahai faith by enticing the poor families and children with money and charitable aid.

The accused held a number of meetings and symposiums in several houses he owned comprising Bahais and Yemenis to elect members of the so-called 'the central sacred lodge' and form its branches in the provinces.
