Croatian Pres. concedes defeat to opposition candidate


(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) Croatian President Ivo Josipovic has conceded defeat for the candidate of the opposition Democratic Union Kolinda Grabar-Kitarovic in Presidential elections, losing by a margin of one percent on Sunday.

Josipovic, quoted by Croatian media as speaking to some of his aide, said Grabar-Kitarovic won by a slim-margin and congratulated her for her victory in elections.

He said he conceded defeat after 97 percent of votes were counted and that Grabar-Kitarovic won 50.5 percent of votes against 49.5 percent for the incumbent president.

Meanwhile, Foreign Minister Vesna Pusic warned against the resurrection of the nationalists following Grabar-Kitarovic's victory.
