(MENAFN- Khaleej Times) A bus driver allegedly kidnapped a woman on the pretext of giving her a lift to her home and raped her, a Dubai court heard on Sunday.
The Court of First Instance was told that the 41-year-old Pakistani accused claimed to the Ugandan woman that he was an officer of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) and would check whether she was residing illegally in the country.
He drove her to a sandy yard in Al Manama in Al Muraqqabat area, where he allegedly raped and sexually assaulted her in his bus after taking her wallet and phone. He faced charges of kidnap, rape, sexual assault with the use of force and threat and impersonating a police officer.
The woman, 28, who works in the sales department of an international food company, said in the investigation that she was waiting for a taxi after midnight on August 8 on Al Hamriyah street when the accused stopped his minibus near her. "I sat in the passenger seat next to him. He drove for some time, parked in a sandy location and started talking on his phone. He took my wallet and mobile phone and claimed that he was from the CID and would check with his seniors whether I was an illegal resident of the UAE."
He then allegedly started touching and fondling her. She said she offered him Dh200 and begged him to let her go. He, however, reportedly moved her to the back of the vehicle and raped her.
After committing the crime, he drove the bus, but reportedly stopped again and asked her to have sex with him. This time, the victim told him firmly that she would scream if he tried to do anything with her. He dropped her at the spot he picked her up from after returning her phone and wallet and asked her to keep in touch with him.
The police arrested the accused from Meydan Bani Yas in Naif around 1am on August 19. He reportedly confessed to the officers that he kidnapped and raped the complainant.
