(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) The Kuwait based International Islamic Charitable Organization (IICO) kicks off on Sunday a campaign for raising relief aid and donations to help Syrian refugees.
The earnest bid aims at alleviating refugee's sufferings in Syria's neighboring countries amid a freezing winter wave sweeping the region.
IICO Chairman, Amiri Diwan Advisor Abdullah Al-Maatouq,, urged citizens and expats in a statement on Saturday to hurry with aid for the Syrians who are facing severe weather conditions.
The UN Secretary-General's Envoy for Humanitarian Affairs demanded the donor countries and the international humanitarian organizations to assume their responsibilities and launch urgent relief programs to help the refugees who suffer from tragic conditions, as the host countries cannot afford due care Al-Maatouq referred to field reports showing how the refugee camps were covered with ice, or overwhelmed by rain water.
The human conditions of the Syrian refugees in Lebanon, Syria and Turkey are likely to aggravate unless "charitable and benevolent people proceed to counter the disaster that could lead to grave human conditions," he said.
