Egypt- Parliamentary elections to start 21 March

(MENAFN- Daily News Egypt) Egypt's next parliamentary elections are to take place in two stages, splitting up different governorates, in March and April, the Supreme Elections Commission stated on Thursday.

Fourteen governorates are to vote in the first stage while 11 are due to vote in the second stage. The first stage includes Giza, Fayoum, Minya, Alexandria while the second stage includes Cairo, Ismailia, Port Said, and Northern and Southern Sinai.

The first of the two stages of voting is to take place on 22 and 23 March, while the second stage is to take place on the 26and 27 April Egyptians residing within Egypt.

For Egyptians residing outside Egypt, the first stage is to take place on 21 and 22March while the second stage is to take place on 25 and 26April.

After the finalisation, in mid-December, of the draft law set to regulate the upcoming parliamentary elections, several political parties told Daily News Egypt they were doubtful of the legitimacy of the vote's outcome. Other politicians predicted that Islamists would be excluded.

Until now, President Abdel-Fattah Al-Sisi holds all legislative powers.

Parliamentary elections were the third pillar determining the 'transitional roadmap', that Al-Sisi announced after the military ouster of former president Mohamed Morsi in July 2013.
