Dubai sets milestones in rare cardiac surgeries: paper

(MENAFN- Emirates News Agency (WAM)) A UAE paper has said that evidence of Dubai's growing expertise in performing rare, complex and state-of-the-art cardiac surgeries was provided with double conviction last week as two complex and extremely challenging procedures met with resounding and robust success.

"One was a minimally invasive procedure to attend to a severely damaged aorta in a 27-year-old accident victim and the other involved two corrective operations to replace a diseased aorta with an artificial graft," said Gulf News in its editorial on Sunday.

It continued, "The latter is a first of its kind procedure attempted in the region, while the former was a high-risk procedure that called for absolute skill using the latest technology. Both have done Dubai, and its medical establishment proud and are milestones that mark Dubai's health care quality advancing to a new level." "The medical field is a constantly changing domain of innovation triggered by technological advances and to be able to offer the best in health care, a country needs to be in step with the global pace." "Last week's breakthrough surgeries are proof that Dubai is in step with this pace and is striding briskly towards its goal of excellence in health care as part of UAE's overall Vision 2021," concluded the Dubai-based daily.
