(MENAFN- The Peninsula) Canada lost 4,300 jobs in December as gains in full-time work were offset by part-time job losses, the government statistical agency said Friday.
Full-time employment rose by 54,000 in the month, while there was a decline of 58,000 in part-time work, said Statistics Canada.
In all of 2014, there were 186,000 jobs created, most of them in the second half of the year, the agency said.
However, in the last two months job growth came to a screeching halt. The unemployment rate remained at 6.6 percent.
In December, there were 24,000 fewer women employed while 23,000 unemployed men found work.
The number of hotel and restaurant workers fell by 33,000. There were also 14,000 fewer in-home care workers such as nannies employed.
Meanwhile more people were hired to work in greenhouses, nurseries and floriculture production, as well as in natural resources sectors.
More bureaucrats were also hired by provinces and municipalities.
