UAE- Worlds top players to battle it out for DDF Tennis Championships


(MENAFN- Khaleej Times) The championships which will take place from February 15 to 28 are one of the most eagerly anticipated events on the UAE sporting calendar.

Dubai — Dubai is all set to welcome one of the best player line-ups ever when the Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships held under the patronage of His Highness Shaikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai returns next month.



The championships which will take place from February 15 to 28 are one of the most eagerly anticipated events on the UAE sporting calendar and one of the most popular tournaments on the international tennis circuit.



The event will again feature the world’s top players as they battle it out for the coveted Dubai title guaranteeing another fortnight of spectacular tennis for the thousands of local and international fans who flock to the event each year.



The WTA entry list includes a stellar line-up featuring eight of the top ten players and 17 of the top 20 players in the world. The line-up includes world no 1 Serena Williams world number 3 Simona Halep and world number 4 Petra Kvitova. Other top players heading to Dubai are Agnieszka Radwanska Ana Ivanovic Caroline Wozniacki Angelique Kerber while 2014 champion Venus Williams will also return to defend her title.



The men’s entry list will be finalised in the coming week but organizers are expecting reigning champion Roger Federer to be back to delight the crowds as he takes on Dubai’s defending champion Novak Djokovic and last year’s finalist Thomas Berdych.



Staged at the Dubai Duty Free Tennis Stadium in Garhoud the action will commence on February 15 with the $2.5 million WTA event followed on February 23 with the $2.5 million ATP tournament.



Commenting on this year’s event Colm McLoughlin executive vice chairman of Dubai Duty Free the tournament owners and organisers said: “We are delighted to be welcoming the world’s best players back to Dubai. We are looking forward to some thrilling matches with so many great players here the fans will be able to see world class tennis on every day of the tournament.”



With the tournament kicking off in just under 6 weeks organisers are making sure that all is in place for a record breaking event which will see non-stop action and excitement both on and off the court for the entire fortnight.



Tournament director Salah Tahlak commented: “This tournament is eagerly awaited by players and fans alike and the line-up this year is really fantastic. We look forward to welcoming spectators for this year’s event and providing some unforgettable tennis action.” This year marks the 23rd men’s event and the 15th women’s event and the stage is set for another exhilarating tournament.
